ABSTRACT
Today, the word sustainability and its various forms such as sustainable development are not used consistently and have quite different meanings to various people and the organizations that use them. The lead-in quotation by Dr. Bartlett illustrates the situation. This section contains a discussion of the various definitions and uses of the word sustainability and its various configurations and disguises. We identify several types or classes of definitions.
