ABSTRACT

Among the different genres of the art of origami, one alluring to many is modular origami: origami formed by joining many identically folded units into a geometric shape-typically, some form of polyhedron. There are at least as many modular origami designs as there are polyhedra-actually, there are many more, since a given polyhedron may be folded in many different ways. In most cases, the modular origami designer starts with a polyhedron in mind and develops an origami rendition of it. On rare and happy occasions, the progression goes the other way. So it was with an investigation I made into a particular class of origami modulars-intersecting polyhedra-wherein the origami investigation led to (what I believe is) the first complete enumeration and several new examples of a new class of polyhedral object.
