ABSTRACT

The industrial development of modern wind power had its beginnings in the United States under the presidency of Jimmy Carter. In the 1970s, first major wind power projects were developed in California. In 1980, however, Carter’s successor, Ronald Reagan abruptly cancelled the support for the research and market introduction of renewable energies in the United States. Reagan ended this early industrial development; it was becoming a strong competition for the oil companies, which generously supported his election campaign. Instead, he reinforced the military protection of the world’s oil resources. A disastrous decision because it laid the foundation for more and more aggressive global oil wars.
