ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will consider the benets and costs of making genetically modied organisms (GMOs), both plants and animals. We will also review the technology whereby GMOs are made.
We will also examine the costs and benets of animal reproductive cloning (e.g., Dolly the sheep) and the creation of animal chimeras. Therapeutic cloning and somatic cell nuclear transfer is seen to be a controversial pathway to the harvesting of stem cells.
