ABSTRACT

After examining the major ethical schools, you should be able to begin formulating your own logic for the manner in which you make important decisions. By important decisions we mean those that will affect the well-being of others. For example, the decision to go to the grocery store today or tomorrow is not likely to be a decision point that requires a great deal of ethical reasoning. It will instead be based on convenience and whether you have minimum goods on which you can sustain yourself. However, important decisions that produce consequences for not only yourself, but also for others are considered to be decisions of a higher order. They demand careful attention and the ability to critically think about the impact. Criminal justice is a discipline that is responsible for providing a service to society. All decisions made by criminal justice practitioners acting within the purview of official duty are important because they are likely to affect others directly or indirectly.
