ABSTRACT

Half of all men and one-third of all women in the United States will develop cancer during their lifetimes, and cancer remains the second most common cause of death in the United States.1 The Baylor Charles A. Sammons Center at Dallas, the largest unit of the BHCS Oncology Service Line, was established more than 35 years ago with the vision of providing high-quality clinical care, outstanding research and education, and comprehensive support services for patients and families through multidisciplinary, cooperative interactions among diverse medical specialties and support staff. The center’s organization and governance, including collaboration with one of the nation’s largest oncology practice groups, were established to facilitate these goals.
