Case study 6-2. Clinic billing system. Apex Med ical Center purchased the Acme Medical Clinic two years ago. No significant changes were made other than having the clinic administered by hospital personnel and bringing Acme employees under the hospital’s umbrella. Organizationally, Acme was left as a free-standing clinic filing claims only on 1500 forms. Acme’s billing system had not been changed since it was developed and was optimized for physician billing, use of modifiers, and proper generation of reports.
