ABSTRACT

Introduction HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, was passed by Congress in 1996 and will affect healthcare delivery and healthcare compliance for many years to come. While many aspects of HIPAA directly impact CBR issues, other features are more incidental to CBR compliance concerns. However, narrowing our focus to the issues involving coding, billing, reimbursement, and associated healthcare payment processes, only slightly reduces the scope and complexity of the rules that this legislation encompasses.
