Although Thurstone’s ve criteria for a simple-structure solution, discussed in Section 10.2, appear to be consistent with the idea that each variable should be accounted for by fewer than the total number of common factors, many factor analysts have felt that these criteria are not rigorous and that their implementation is all too subjective.
