ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we shall examine the general properties of PSs and, in particular, some properties of nonlinear systems. How underlying physical and chemical processes contribute to the behavior of PSs will be described, including diusion and chemical mass action. We then examine some of the means used to characterize nonlinear PSs.
