ABSTRACT
Many video coding standards have been developed during the past two decades. In this chapter, the general principles and structures of digital video coding are first presented. Then the basic tools for video coding standards are introduced. In order to improve coding efficiency and increase functionality, several enhancement tools for digital video coding standards have been developed and the basic ideas behind these tools are presented. Finally, the summary of different digital video coding standards and several encoding issues are described.
