ABSTRACT

In hypothesis testing, one makes a statement (hypothesis) about an unknown population parameter and then uses statistical methods to determine (test) whether the observed sample data support that statement. Note that a statistical hypothesis is an assumption made about some parameter, i.e., about a statistical measure of a population. One may also define hypothesis as a conjectural statement about one or more parameters. Synonyms for hypothesis could include assumption, or guess. A hypothesis can be tested to verify its credibility.
