ABSTRACT

Uncertainty analysis is the procedure used to quantify data validity and accuracy. Uncertainty analysis also will be useful in identifying the potential sources of unacceptable errors and suggesting improved measurement methods. The uses of uncertainty analysis are some of the primary ones which we think of in any experimental scheme. The primary objective of uncertainty analysis is to estimate the probable random error in experimental results. In commercial experiments, a commonly used approach for external error estimation is to consult the literature supplied by the manufacturer. In any experiment, it is advisable to check the measured value for repeatability, by carrying out repeated measurements. The general procedure for estimating the uncertainties in the calculated quantities using measured data is described. A procedure to estimate the uncertainty in flow Mach number which is calculated from the measured total pressure and ambient pressure is given.
