ABSTRACT

Due to the low attenuation character high data transmission rate and the low cost the simple plastic optical fiber (POFs) with light emitting diode (LED) coupler module has been used widely in short distance A/V signal communication in last decade. However, the coupling efficiency of this module is dominated by the light pattern, fiber tip shape and alignment. In general, a relative low coupling efficiency is experienced in this type coupler module. Hence, how to improve the coupling efficiency in this POFs and LED type coupler module has always been a major subject. In this study, the effect of POFs tip shapes on the coupling efficiency improvement is studied.
