Introduction

We can divide these ‘vehicles’ into two categories: those that generate lift aerodynamically and those whose lifting mechanism is aerostatic. A brief recap of aerostatic versus aerodynamic lift is given in Box 1.1. As seen, there is a fundamental difference between the motions of these two kinds of vehicles. In this book, we focus on flying vehicles that depend on aerodynamic forces for their lift.
