ABSTRACT

Now that you have read the story, I have a question: Why couldn’t Fred talk to his nonprofit organization? Would not a dying and troubled organization welcome an employee who claimed to have suggestions to solving major problems and challenges? We wish we could say yes. However, talking to corporations is not like talking to individuals. While talking to a troubled individual is challenging and scary, talking to corporations takes longer and a more sophisticated strategy for getting to the table. First, communicating with large corporations requires capturing the attention of top management and sometimes the board of directors. Also, communication to a corporation is done through training programs, the continued education of leadership, value-added books, symposiums, and sometimes important leaders in the business world obtaining the ear of C-level management. On top of all that, it must take place at the right time in the life cycle of a corporation-before the corporation becomes

too old to hear, talk, walk, and think. However, when the people with the authority to make changes to the corporation are awakened and informed, and when they learn the way to change the structure, then true change can take place. And, when that happens, you have communicated with a corporation. Does it sound complicated? Well, it is. But, everyone loves a challenge, and this challenge is worth it.
