ABSTRACT

In community planning, the process, which creates, implements, and periodically revisits plans, is ideally modeled after nature’s biophysical patterns, systems, and cycles. People conduct such a process to ensure their future, as much as humanly possible, in an ecosystem of which they are an inseparable part. Therefore, when modeling a planning process, one must consider the multidimensional biophysical requirements of both the people and the ecosystem. The multidimensionality of people means that conflict can be anticipated. The challenge is to use conflict, as necessary, to fuel change, and as Palmer suggests, fuel the community.
