ABSTRACT

Introduction In Chapter 10 we discussed the evolution of localized processes into integrated and agile supply chains. We showed that the final version of the supply chain is a combination of all types of industries. Figure 11.1 shows the relationships along the supply chain. In this chapter, we describe two additional complementary types of industries-producer services and social services. Although these industries are not a direct part of the supply chain, they are complementary and essential to the success of the supply chain. Figure 11.2 shows their relationship to the basic supply chain.
