ABSTRACT

Assistant Special Agent in Charge William Alverado’s Story As the assistant special agent in charge over the district attorney’s Office of Special Investigations, I tended to be the focal point for multijurisdictional investigations in the metro area at the local and state levels. Recently, there had been a significant uptick in drug trafficking and related crimes. The district attorney (DA) wanted me to corral the resources of state, local, and federal authorities to focus on interdicting the massive amounts of drugs being smuggled into our city. The DA and my special agent in charge (SAC) gave me free rein in determining which agencies to recruit for this new task force. The police department would be my first pick, and Tom would be my first selection.
