ABSTRACT

Empowering employees is a means to make them and yourself more successful. Needs and wants are interpreted differently when it comes to empowerment. Needing something is important, but once you are able to have it, it no longer motivates you; it is more of an expectation that satisfies. Unsatisfied needs are a means of motivation, which are all interpreted in psychological needs. Psychology plays a huge factor when empowering employees. People want to be understood, valued, and validated, with plenty of positive reinforcement. Once people feel trusted and reassured, they begin to feel empowered and become influential. This is one of the most important assets of communication possible. Motivation comes from wanting to do something because it makes someone feel better. In order to be motivated, one must have the knowledge and skill set for the subject and the desire for success. Being told to do something normally does not empower people because it is not their idea. They want to be listened to and given the choice to make their own decisions. Once what is needed is defined, people can decide if they are empowered to do it because they want to do it. People must agree with the scope at hand in order to be motivated.
