ABSTRACT

Inammation underlies or is at least strongly associated with nearly all diseases and disorders, including those that are the subject of most or all of the chapters to follow. This statement, which now enjoys extensive agreement among physicians and scientists, was for many years not appreciated in modern times. The roots of the concept actually extend back many centuries and are highlighted in tables in this chapter (Tables 14.1 and 14.2) enumerating ancient and medieval uses of Capparis for treating inflammation in its many different forms that are not covered in similar tables in subsequent chapters.
