ABSTRACT

As explained in Chapter 8, testing and assessment are essential components of a training plan. They are an indicator of how much the trainees have learned. They provide evidence of an increase in knowledge, improvement in skill, or change in behavior as a result of the training. Unless this evidence is valid and reliable, however, it is worthless because it would not confirm achievement of the learning objectives. Validity and reliability depend on the testing methods used, construction of test items, and passing criteria. Chapter 8 discusses matching various testing methods to learning objectives. This chapter describes how to develop the tests and determine cut scores, or passing scores.
