ABSTRACT

Obesity is a common problem amongst women of reproductive years, with 60% of women in the United Kingdom being either overweight or obese. Obesity has a negative impact on natural conception, pregnancy, the risk of miscarriage, and the long-term health of both mother and child due to both an increased rate of congenital anomalies and also the possibility of metabolic disease in later life. Obesity also has a negative impact on male fertility (see Chapter 3).
