ABSTRACT
What’s in an image? Arguably, this question is most often considered in the context of vision. An observer can attempt an answer by considering the spatial pattern of color. Even in astatic image or snapshot, the observer can extract arange of information through visual cues like perspective, Œgure-ground separation, and shading. Typically, though, vision is adynamic process involving not only continuously changing images, but also active eye movements; these dynamics enable the extraction of additional visual information (e.g., Wexler and van Bostel 2005). Less intuitive, however, is the nature of information available to animals that sense with electricity (e.g., Heiligenberg 1993; Albert and Crampton 2005).
