ABSTRACT

The Economic Espionage Act (EEA) is but one part of the various federal laws that can be applied to various types of theft. Besides the EEA, there are the laws governing copyright and patent protection and theft, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Trade Secrets Act, and a few others, some of which seem minor, but could be put into play when absolutely necessary. Congress is concerned about espionage, but its response through the crafting of relevant laws, is slow. Various Congressional Committees and Subcommittees will hold many hearings on the subject, trot out innumerable experts, spend an inordinate amount of time deliberating the ‘tragedy’ that has befallen America, and finally issue a report on what should be done. Any laws, or change to laws, will then be considered. Unfortunately, what could’ve, should’ve, or would’ve happened are many times disparate.
