ABSTRACT
People ran into the streets, shouted, and partied all night: The Wall Had Fallen! The world was free of Communism, and the Soviet Union was no more. The downfall created a number of new, little nations. The world was safe… or so we all assumed. Nobody had much thought for China, the last refuge of Stalinist hard line Communism. Since 1949, the People’s Republic of China under Mao had become a communist nation in the Far East. Now, it was the newest threat to freedomloving people around the world; only we didn’t necessarily recognize that fact.
