ABSTRACT

Monitoring is integral to the success of any productive activity, whether detailed inspection of each step in a process or general user feedback on the outcome. Since monitoring has a cost, it makes sense to measure only what is essential to control and improve. There are also wider reasons to measure performance in an organisational context including providing evidence that financial targets and governance rules are being met.
