ABSTRACT

Effects on the Kidneys Cortisol aids in the excretion of a water load by: 1) helping to maintain the glomerular filtration rate, 2) suppressing ADH release, and 3) decreasing ADH effects on collecting tubules. With cortisol excess, PU/ PD is evident. Cortisol is also required for generation of NH4+ from glutamine, and aids in the renal gluconeogenic conversion of glutamine hydrocarbons to glucose. As mentioned above, cortisol reduces renal Ca2+ and P043-reabsorption.
