ABSTRACT

I. Radiography The routine radiographic examination of the stifle joint in the standing horse includes a lateromedial (LM), caudocranial (CC), and lateral oblique (caudo60°lateral-craniomedial oblique) projections. A medial oblique view is not included in the routine radiographic examination of the stifle. The AEP needs the following equipment to produce a diagnostic quality examination:

• X-ray unit capable of producing 90kVp and 10 mA exposures. • Imaging system that has 400 speed. Rare earth screens and corresponding film in 14” x 17”

cassettes are highly recommended. • Aluminum cassette holder. • Light beam collimator is very beneficial. • A grid may be indicated due to the soft tissue thickness at the stifle, but it is not practical for

the AEP because the exposure times required for a grid technique are greatly increased (2-4 times) and it would make positioning the cassette more difficult.
