ABSTRACT

C Singularity Theory In Chapter 9, we hypothesized that different kinds of response curve may correspond to different physiologic/pathologic phenotypes of the PI3K-AKT-TOR pathway. The three quantities I , A, and p are constrained by the master equation of AKT activation:

G (I, A, p) = 0. According to the master equation, every point p in the parameter space is associated with a shape of the response curve A (I ). The parameter space can thus be divided into different regions, with each region including all the points whose response curves are of the same kind, which is qualitatively different from the kind of response curves of another region. That is, each region corresponds to a unique phenotype, and such a demarcation of the parameter space would advance our understanding of the PI3KAKT-TOR pathway. Theoretically speaking, the demarcation can be accomplished after all the points in the parameter space are investigated and classified. However, this approach is very time consuming; it is even impossible if the parameter space is too large.
