ABSTRACT

The birth, growth, and development of the United States is a remarkable historical story. Moving from a set of colonies into a global superpower, over a span of two centuries, is a unique feat in world history. With the conclusion of the American Revolution, the 13 English colonies gained independence and formed the United States. The “Founding Fathers” established a nation structured as a democratic representative government, instantiated as a republic, during a period in which most powerful countries were controlled by monarchies.
