ABSTRACT
To avoid the loss of power to customers or void network vulnerability, live-line work is sometimes the only method available to perform maintenance tasks. Because the equipment is energized, live-line work comes with considerable hazards. Therefore, strict procedures and rules have been established by various government organizations to ensure the safety of all workers at the site. Some of these procedures were actually developed back in the early twentieth century for relatively low-voltage works. During the second half of the twentieth century, several methods were developed for almost all voltage levels. Generally, live-line work can be done by one of three methods:
Hot stick: Where the worker remains at a distance from the live parts and carries out the work by hot stick or shotgun.
