ABSTRACT
In thenineteenth century it became clear that the heart generated electricity. In 1924,
Willem Einthoven discovered the electrocardiographic features of the heart and
realised that these could be used to detect abnormalities. He assigned letters PQRST
to the various deflections and was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery.
