ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will examine three cases involving cop-killers aged forty to forty-four. The cases include:
• David Bowling, who killed an officer while trying to escape from a home burglary
• Mark Gonzales, who executed an officer he pulled alongside after being involved in a minor accident
• Christian Patterson, who barricaded himself in a garage and killed an officer investigating a domestic disturbance
This group shows a dramatic increase in the use of drugs and alcohol as a contributing factor that led to the death of police officers involved in confrontations with them.
