ABSTRACT
It has been found that surfactants, when aggregating in their lamellar liquid crystalline form, provide good lubrication of surfaces. This contribution discusses the conditions for obtaining lamellar liquid crystalline phases at surfaces. Beside the surfactant molecular structure itself, other parameter of importance are co-surfactants, co-and counter-ions and the presence of solubilizates.
