ABSTRACT
The simplest gas turbine engine requires at least two major components besides the turbine proper (Figure 7.1). The gas (usually air) must be compressed by a centrifugal or axial-flow compressor, and then it must be heated (usually by burning a hydrocarbon fuel) in a combustor or heat exchanger. Gas is delivered to the turbine inlet at an elevated pressure and temperature.
