ABSTRACT
Based on the observed field performance of all the concrete structures described in Chapter 2, the question may be raised why all the offshore concrete structures built for the oil and gas industry in the North Sea since the early 1970s have shown such a better durability than all the important marine concrete structures built along the Norwegian coastline during the same period. For many years, the required service life for the offshore concrete structures was typically 30 years, gradually increasing up to typically 60 years, while for all the land-based marine concrete structures, the required service life was typically 60 years, gradually increasing up to typically 100 years.
