ABSTRACT

The rst half of this chapter summarizes the epidemiological evidence behind the associations between obesity and cancer risk and points out several emerging caveats in these associations, for example, effect modications of other cancer risk factors such as hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) and smoking. The second half of this chapter will make the important distinction between types of studies evaluating obesity, cancer-related mortality, and survival, and emphasize potential biases and misinterpretations in these studies.
