ABSTRACT

More direct evidence for the independent contribution of physical activity comes from intervention trials in which diet-plusexercise interventions provided signicantly greater weight loss than diet-only interventions.4 Regular physical activity, and especially aerobic exercise training, can also increase or preserve tness.5 Therefore, the link between obesity and adverse health outcomes may be mediated in part by habitual low levels of physical activity and low tness. Thus, associations among obesity, physical activity, tness, and health outcomes are complex and require further elucidation.
