ABSTRACT
Part ill has discussed some of the emerging trends in mining. These included mining distributed, heterogeneous, and legacy databases, mining multimedia data, web mining, security and privacy issues for mining, and mining metadata. The information in this part, which is Layer 3 of the framework, builds on the information provided by the technologies and concepts in Layers 2 and 3. That is, the chapters in Part ill make use of what we have dis cussed in Parts I and II. We chose these topics as they are considered to be important by many, and they are of interest to us.
