Nalfining [Nalco refining] A process for purifying petroleum fractions by treatment with acetic anhydride, followed by extraction with aqueous sodium hydroxide. The rst stage converts the O-, N-, and S-containing impurities into oxygenates that are removed in the second stage. Invented by Nalco in 1959.
