ABSTRACT

In his State of the Union message in January 2003, President Bush announced a major new initiative: powering the world through hydrogen. He proposed a huge research funding amassing $1.2 billion that he said would enable the United States to “lead the world in developing clean, hydrogen-powered automobiles.” Spurred by this new federal support, Bush said, “our scientists and engineers will overcome obstacles to taking these cars from laboratory to showroom, so that the rst car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen and be pollution-free.” However, it is not as simple as it sounds. The major consideration of regarding the hydrogen as a proposed fuel is the fuel efciency and the economics of the process.
