ABSTRACT

Collection is among the rst steps of a solid waste management program; therefore, proper planning and implementation of collection services can serve as a foundation for sound waste management. Waste disposal costs continue to increase across the United States, and the costs of collection actually exceed those of disposal-collection costs range between 40% and 60% of a community’s solid waste management system costs (U.S. EPA 1999). Efcient collection can, therefore, ultimately hold down waste management costs.
