ABSTRACT

The scope of this volume is quite specific. Suppose we wish to determine the solution V∗ to a fixed point equation V =TV for some operator T. Under suitable conditions, V∗ will be the limit of an iterative algorithm

V0 = v0 Vk = TVk−1, k=1, 2, . . . , (1.1)

where v0 is some initial solution. Such algorithms are ubiquitous in applied mathematics, and their properties well known.
