ABSTRACT
The history of rocket development is contested by many historians, but may date back as far as AD 300. The first documented use of rockets in combat dates to the eleventh century. Most Americans associate rockets with a line from “The Star-Spangled Banner”: “…the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air…,” which refers to British Congreve rockets fired at Fort McHenry from ships in Baltimore Harbor.
