ABSTRACT

When discussing military ordnance, no statement is more accurate than that of Francois Voltaire:

Chapter 1 provided an overview of the energetics utilized in military ordnance. Chapter 2 offers a scientific method in the form of a practical deductive process that can be applied to interrogating an unknown ordnance item. Chapters 3 through 12 provide information on how ordnance is classified by the Category, Group, and sometimes the Type to which they belong. However, it is important to keep two things in mind. First, every ordnance group has a movement safety precaution and should only be moved by appropriately trained personnel after the munition has been identified. Secondly, though larger ordnance items were briefly covered, the focus of this text is primarily on the smaller ordnance items that are more commonly recovered outside of military control.
