ABSTRACT

Aniwhenua inNewZealand’s Bay of Plenty is a typical run-of-river small hydro scheme. The Rangitaiki River was dammed by a 10m high, gated barrage forming a 255 ha reservoir with a 2.2 km long concrete lined canal leading to a 25MW power station. The head of 38m is developed by bypassing a series of rapids and an 8m waterfall. The station was commissioned in 1980.
