ABSTRACT
The physics of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were first described in 1946, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) images have been used since 1973. The NMR phenomenon was originally described independently at Stanford University by Felix Bloch (Bloch 1946) and at Harvard by Edward Purcell, in 1946. Both received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1952 for their work.
