ABSTRACT

Now that you have looked at some of the key issues in current leadership thinking, this chapter explores how you can apply those concepts to yourself as a leader.

Understanding Self One of the greatest attributes of being a great leader is having a deeper understanding of oneself. This includes a higher degree of self-awareness, a recognition and acknowledgement of one’s strengths and weaknesses, along with a belief system that supports them-not only in the achievement of one’s goals, but also in overcoming the challenges that one may face on a day-to-day basis. The more you know about yourself, your mind, and your behaviours, the greater appreciation and understanding you will have of the people around you. It’s much better to work with what you know, rather than what you don’t know.
