ABSTRACT
The study of lighting for industry is the Cinderella of lighting research. Compared to the effort that has been put into studying lighting for offices, lighting for industry had been sadly neglected. The reason for this neglect is not the lack of importance of lighting for industry, but rather the difficulty in generalizing any conclusions. The nature of the work done in an office is similar in all offices, so any conclusions reached from research are relevant to all offices. The same cannot be said for industry. Study of the optimum lighting conditions for any given industrial activity is likely to be specific to that activity.
